Until Next Time Lisa

Today is a sad day in the Evans’ household. Lisa will no longer be visiting us. In honor of her last day we asked the kids a few questions and we are posting them to Campbell and Mara’s blog. Here are Campbell’s answers.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do with Lisa?
A: Play with her.

A: She has a turquoise vacuum. She has funny jokes on her popsicles. She really does.

A: Her honeymoon jar. It has money in it.

Field Trip To The Trash Collection Department

Friday, Campbell and Mara got to go on a little field trip that Lisa setup for Campbell. She did all the legwork to find out where they could go to visit the city garbage trucks. Don’t ask me how, but she got connected to Mister Henry in City of Greensboro Field Operations, specifically the Trash Collection Department and he allowed them to come visit for a little tour. I have no idea if they do this normally or not, for school classes or what, but they did it yesterday for Campbell!

They got a tour of their garbage truck parking area and got to see all different types of trucks. Then they took a look at the garbage truck in detail.

Big driver.

Just like the pros.

Mister Henry showed them the ins and outs of a real garbage truck. Campbell got to see some of what he usually plays with as toys, in real life action.

This has to be one of those times that you are just amazed at how nice some people can be to take time out of their jobs to make a special day for a little kid. Government connection or not, this was just superb service for any business to do. And many, many thanks to Lisa for the thought and creativity to create this experience for him. We are very lucky.

He just loved it!

The Talking Garbage Can

Last week we made our first trip down to Walt Disney World. We had a wonderful time and the kids absolutely loved it. After telling you about Campbell’s infatuation with garbage cans and vacuum cleaners, our trip was met with some unexpected excitement. To our surprise they have a moving and talking garbage can in Tomorrowland. There is no schedule so there is no guarantee that it will be out and about at all, much less when you are in the area. On our first walk over to the area we had the chance to see it right away. This worked out really well since we had begun to hype it up to Campbell the day before.

King’s Weekend

Yes, of course I could have called it guy’s weekend, since Mara and Mom are off to VA. But that would be so 2000 and late. Plus, King’s weekend is much more representative of how Campbell and I roll when we have the house to ourselves.

We started off with bfast at Mickey D’s. By the way, whoever invented the McGriddle is a genius. Campbell stuck with the classic hotcakes. I think they’re just yellow cake batter in the shape of a pancake. He’s a growing boy and needs to eat well.

Next we worked it all off at the playground. How many calories do you burn riding on the swing?

Swinging is hard work.

Next Daddy went to workout. I forgot pictures of Campbell screaming his head off in the gym daycare, but it wasn’t pretty. Actually it only lasted about 2 minutes they tell me, all until they put on the movie, Cars.

After cleaning up we went out to lunch. Campbell picked it. Red Robin (good choice).

A King’s feast.

After lunch it is always nap time. Kings need their rest.

So, after nap, what is the right thing to do? That’s right. Back to the playground.

So many toys, so little time.

I think you get the picture. What other random things do Kings do, when left to run the castle?

They don’t clean up after themselves.

Yes, they do chores.

They dance.

Campbell Gets His Groove On

It would be an understatement to say that Campbell LOVES the song “Single Ladies.” He requests it often by saying, “Put A Ring On It.” Next to “Peanut Butter Jelly Time” (which he calls “Where Ya At”) it is his most requested dance tune. The real difference is, when he dances to “Single Ladies” he puts his signature moves on, and does them with the verse changes (sort of). Not the same with PBJT which is just a random dance. The wraith of his sisters uncontrolled moves don’t even phase him. I think Dad thought Mara’s smack was a lot worse than it really was.

So, here we give you the amazing dancing Campbell showing off his moves. Actually I have no idea who taught him this stuff, but I guess it had to be Lisa. Thanks Lisa.

Oh. And Mara dressed herself this day.

Campbell’s New Toy

This video was shot a little while ago, but its taken some time to get it up here to the site. No… no particular reason, but just trying to date it. It was probably taken last year.

We had a box lying around, and of course, every child’s favorite thing is to play with a box. The kids were crawling in and out of it. I’m not sure what transpired exactly, but at some point Mara found herself in the box, and Campbell was on the outside. We ended up with a very big Jack in the Box with Mara being ‘Jack’ (yeah, I tried to think up a clever ‘J’ name in the video that was female and used Janet, which didn’t get understood very well). Campbell thought it was the funniest thing!

One of the best things happening right now is seeing these two get along more and more. Campbell absolutely adores Mara. It is also clear that she is the one that can make him laugh the loudest. He finds her very funny.

Latest Skill Set

Campbell has been going to The Little Gym, just like his big sister had. So he has been learning some new skills to show everyone. In this video he does some of them, like jumping and acting like a frog. But we cannot convince him to do others, like swimming on the floor. It also took a little bribing at the end to get him to officially do a bear crawl by taking the blocks away with which he likes to “stamp” people. This gets him a little upset, so you also get to see his crying and pouting on the floor. Classic.

Summer Is Going…

Seeing as the summer is going away here, I thought it would be good to get something up on the website before it totally takes a hiatus for the year. This is a cute video of Campbell and Mara playing in the driveway with some big balloons that were bought at the dollar store. These were the surprise of the summer and a hit with the kids. They loved playing with them. Although, Mara kept touching them to something that would eventually pop them within about a day of buying them. This was one toy that Campbell seemed to handle pretty well. The kids are also in some of their favorite outfits. The pink skirt was Mara’s uniform. These are a few of the things that make this video represent this summer pretty well.

Feats Of Strength

Its never too early to get the little man working on his physique. I’m not sure what it is with little kids, but they just love to try and pick things up that are bigger than they are. With Mara it was the weighted exercise ball that we have. Its not more than 5 pounds or so, and relatively small, but to a little person that is only 30 pounds, 5 pounds is a big deal.

In this case, Campbell is enamored with the diaper trash. Whenever it gets pulled out of the can he wants to get all over it while you’re trying to replace it with another bag. The morning that I took the video he was all about helping me. Take a look at him trying to drag it around. That is until it became a game of trying to tease me that he was going to continue to help.
